The Heart of the Disciple

The Last Two Contrasts of Matthew 7:

• Matt. 7:21-23
  Those who “Say Lord, Lord”
  But “do not do the Will of the Father.”
  
• Matt. 7:24-27
  House on the Rock
  (Hear the word and Obey)
  House on the Sand
  (Hear the word but do not Obey)

Matt. 7:15-16 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves…You will know them by their fruit.”

Matt. 7:21-23 Words of what we have done are insufficient evidence for membership in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Talk is cheap!

Religiosity is inadequate!

Outward behavior without inner reality!

FRUIT: is not prophesy, casting out demons or preforming wonders. Vrs. 22

FRUIT: is Doing the Father’s will!

Matt. 7:24 House on the Rock
(Therefore) whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock…

Matt. 7:26 House on the Sand
(But) everyone who hears these sayings of Mine and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.”

FRUIT: Hearing and Doing the words of Jesus!

Vrs. 28-29 “…the people were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes.”

• Don’t just talk the word, walk the word!
• Integrity – The same inside and out.
• Obedience is better than sacrifice.
• Pay attention to your heart.
• Be quick to go and seek reconciliation.
