Who We Are
We describe ourselves as a gospel-centered, Spirit-filled, Presbyterian church, and that description shines a lot of light on how we think about worship, ministry, and community.
GOSPEL-CENTERED
Our guiding purpose is to exalt Jesus Christ and make known to the world the joy of living in communion with him. Myrtle Grove has long been passionate about proclaiming the good news of what God has done through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. We express that passion through outreach locally, church-planting regionally, and missions-sending internationally.
SPIRIT-FILLED
Visitors to Myrtle Grove often comment about how loving our congregation is; there is a joy that characterizes our gatherings and our relationships with each other. That is because we seek and expect to experience “peace and joy in the Holy Spirit`` (Romans 14:17). We embrace the fullness of the Holy Spirit and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts that he offers. Our worship and ministry are expressive of His life and power at work within us.
PRESBYTERIAN
At the most basic level, being Presbyterian simply means that we are governed by elders locally and a council of elders regionally. (The English word Presbyterian comes from the Greek word presbuteros, which means elder.) But it also means that we are grounded in the Scriptures as understood in the historic creeds of the early church and the Protestant Reformed confessions of faith. So, not only do we invite people into worship and community that are infused with vitality and relevance, but also worship connects them with the rich, abiding faith that has endured through the centuries.
OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES ARE
Love God
We are called to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and strength (Deuteronomy 6:5). Through worship, prayer, and devotion to His Word, we seek to grow in our knowledge and adoration of Him.
Love Others
Christ commands us to love one another as He has loved us (John 13:34). By serving with humility, showing kindness, and bearing one another’s burdens, we reflect His love to the world.
Make Disciples
Obeying Christ’s Great Commission (Matthew 28:19–20), we strive to share the gospel, teach God’s Word, and encourage one another to walk faithfully with Him.
Giving to those in need
Notice Christ did not say if you give, he said WHEN you give. Implied is that we as believers are expected to give. But what does that look like, exactly? And how do we do so responsibly? Join us as we study Matthew chapter 6 on the topic of giving to those in need.
